Activities:
There are three main activities in the field school:
· Lectures on diversity of Asian heritage, experiences in applying international standards on “living cultural urban centres”, cultural heritage as tourism resources and management of heritage at local level. Resource persons were from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, India and Malaysia. · Field trips to places of cultural significance and urban historic communities in Malaysia. The trips included on-sites lectures, meeting with local authorities and residents, as well as exploration of urban conservation efforts and issues. · Workshops among participants discussed and made presentation in relation to heritage management and proposal for Sungai Lembing Historical Park. · International Symposium on Asian Heritage Conservation. This was a special highlighted program that brought speakers from various communities in the region who are actively in their own work on urban and cultural conservation in their own countries. It was a break from the norm whereby this time, academicians, professionals and other interested parties listened to ordinary people talking about their experiences pertaining to the issues on urban/cultural heritage. |
